We stayed at Hotel Give after cycling the Hurunui Heartland Trail. Our accommodation included two nights camping, both simple, very Kiwi and enjoyable. However, Hotel Give was a lovely treat at the end of our 260k ride with lots of hill climbing. Everything about the hotel puts guest comfort centre stage, from welcoming reception staff to comfortable rooms to well-equipped community kitchens to personable housekeeping staff - yet at a remarkably low price per room. As cyclists concerned about the safety of our bikes, we were extremely impressed by the system of using an outside secure storage shed in the daytime and a storage room inside the hotel overnight. But what marks out Hotel Give as being profoundly different to its competitors is its ethos of social sustainability, that it is a social enterprise: it is simply wonderful that all profits from our stay are reinvested back into programmes and services provided by the Kind Foundation in the Christchurch Community.

The locality is excellent. The room was very good and comfortable with a great view of the Botanical Gardens and the old Christchurch University.

This is a great place to stay. Close to the CBD, cheap with exceptionally friendly staff. I believe it is an old hotel that was turned into a YMCA some years ago because it was dated but it has now been renovated & is what I consider a 3/4 star accomodation. I didn't have a toilet or ensuite in my room (which I believe most haven't) but in my case the facilities were right across the hallway with others close by. Highly recommend this accomodation. PLUS their profits are filtered back into the community by way of donations to charities 💕 it also now has its own restaurant which wasn't the case the last time I stayed

This clean and comfy hotel exceeded our expectations. Modern decor and large rooms were clean and included a fridge, but no microwave. Access to a public kitchen helped us with our budget as we made breakfast in-house - like a hostel, you have access to a commercial fridge, pots, pans, etc. In house restaurant food was good, we ate dinner there twice. We also loved the location - directly across from the Botanic Gardens and next to the University of Canterbury - it's a beautiful neighborhood. Walking distance to shopping and the Quake Museum, easy pick-up for Uber and tours.

Great location-- Less than 5 minute walk to the botanical gardens, the Number 8 bus stop (to/from airport); 5 minute walk to an art museum, a grocery store, and the Riverside Market (lots of shops and places to eat). The Riverside Market area reminds me of the River Walk in San Antonio, Texas in the United States. The room was very clean, and the bed comfortable. The hotel has 2 guest kitchens if you want to cook your own food; there is a guest laundry room. My floor (and I assume all floors) had an additional bathroom and shower on it. This is great if you have more than one in a room, and your roommate is hogging the bathroom facilities. There is 24/7 reception--nice in case something goes wrong--I don't like contactless check-in.

The location was fabulous, directly across from the Botanic Gardens and close to some wonderful restaurants, including Fiddlesticks and the Cellar Door. Our private room with three beds was comfortable and clean. We were able to check in as soon as we got there, which was about an hour before check-in time. Friendly staff. There is a little trailer in front with delicious coffee, bagel breakfasts and ice cream.

This is my second consecutive booking so I’ve said most in my first review. I did extend a second time directly theory Give (slightly cheaper actually — sorry BCom!) as recommended by staff. So this review will encompass the rest of my stay. It’s just such a pleasant place to be and I made sure to give personal feedback to Kelly at reception this morning, in general and also specifically about MIKE and AMELIA in the HK team. (Though in different zones: Mike is a blur in the kitchen and laundry and Amelia (pink hair) and colleagues tend to the bathrooms and bedrooms. I had a great chat with Amelia yesterday: though more than twice her age now, I worked in the hospitality sector at her she and for 7 years. She shares the values and attitude that — as I told Kelly — please Americans, which is not to say that Americans set the benchmark but it is to say they take hospitality seriously snd it’s a serious career to work facing customers (not to the extent of France, but it’s skilled work you build up to different levels to.) Amelia agreed with me: the standard of hospo in NZ is a non-starter. Aman at front desk find a tight shop and Sameera is also earnest but but quite a softie. I spent my 47th Northey here and he carefully directed me to suitable eateries nearby, the in-house restaurant catering to a conference group. And just tonight I discovered the beauty of this part of the botanical gardens — see photos.

This is a new, sparkling clean Hotel. Check in was quick and efficient by a friendly staff member. The room was modern, spacious, comfortable and clean. It is located across the road from the Christchurch Botanical gardens. It's a short walk to get to the hop on/off tram. It is also very close to the bus stop, number 8 bus takes you to the airport for about $4-NZ each (you must pay cash). They happily stored our luggage for us after check out so we could get a little more sightseeing done. There is a restaurant available for dinner and breakfast. All the staff we encountered at Hotel Give were friendly and helpful.
